HIG-E residents have been volunteering thier time at this facility since 2006. As a Doorways volunteer, you can share your time, energy, and skills to benefit the residents who live there. There are numerous opportunities to get involved, including spending time with residents, helping with mailings, and assisting with Doorways' annual RED gala. Your efforts can help the Doorways program more effectively meet the needs of residents and improve their lives in a number of ways. HIG-E residents volunteer one Thursday night a month, and traditionally plan some kind of event for the residents, such as Bingo or an arts and crafts project. Mostly the residents of Doorways just enjoy spending time with our volunteers. To learn more about the Doorways facility, please click here. ***Important Information*** Because of the nature of the volunteer work at Doorways, you will need to fill out a few short application forms and also complete a TB test. Please click here to view and print the necessary forms. Centenary Cares - HIG-E residents will have the opportunity to prepare and serve food to individuals at this St. Louis food kitchen on Wednesday nights. Each floor from Thomas Eliot will be paired with either Hitzeman, Hurd, or Myers, so you will be able to serve members of our community while also getting to know others in our residential community. This is a new component for us this year, and we hope for it to be very successful. Although we will be serving food, Centenary Cares offers many other services beyond food preparation and service. To learn more about Centenary Cares, please click here. Toiletries/Canned Food Drives - We will be holding several drives throughout the year. Please look for more information at the later date! Educational Programming - Education goes beyond volunteering. We will be offering many programs throughout the year about different topics related to homelessness issues, such as unemployment, domestic violence, women's/children's issues, health care, and education. |
